EduBlog,
Teacher,
web site
If you visit the Grossmont High School website, you will see a link along the left hand side that takes you to “Teacher Web Pages“. This is an easy way to direct kids to your website, but first make sure you are on the list, and that your listed name correctly links to the site you want. If you have an EduBlog that you would like to use go to this page:
http://class.guhsd.net/optout.html
Type your Employee ID (that’s the last 4 of your Attendance log-in) and your password. Type in the address of your Edublog site, then select your school from the drop down list. Once you click submit, your name will appear on the Teacher Website list for Grossmont, and it will link to the URL you typed in the box.

I hope everyone had a great Summer break! The Tech team worked hard over summer to get ready for the start of the new year! We hope to start this year off on the right foot by providing everyone a full day of training on the upcoming technologies we hope you find useful! Grossmont’s newest remodeled building is the Library building or ‘500′ building. It is looking amazing with great features and will house all six of Grossmont’s classroom computer labs. The “Open Lab” location has changed a bit. Instead of 530 it is now in 550 – upstairs facing the lower quad. It should be available for sign up by the 2nd week of school. I’m working all weekend to get the other 5 labs operational before the start of school. Its a busy, but exciting time for Grossmont!

It’s been a while since our last post, amidst the craziness of PropH and WASC everyone has had more than enough to think about! We have not had a Tech Newlsetter in several months, and are hoping to resume once things settle down. Also, my office has been moved due to 500 building demolition so we’ll probably forgo Tech Tuesdays for the remainder of the year. But we’re still more than happy to meet with individuals, and departments by appointment. Submit a HEAT ticket making the request, and we’ll select a date and time.
I’ve recently had people call me to ask if they should fill out a “HEAT Request”. Any tech request should be accompanied with a HEAT ticket. When it doubt…fill it out! Go to:

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful winter break. We would love to start the new semester by helping everyone get grades online. This month’s Tech Newsletter will be devoted to helping everyone achieve this goal. If you missed our summer tech workshop, or haven’t had a chance to come to one of our “Tech Tuesdays” or make an appointment with Mr. Hersch then this newsletter is for YOU! The newsletter will outline the steps needed to post grades online.
We are also recommending the use of the EduBlogs web site if you currently DO NOT have a web page in place. It is easy, and allows teachers a convenient way of updating their site as desired. So look for the Newsletter due out this Friday 01/11/08. Come back to check out the FAQ portion of this web site, we will be posting instructions on posting grades as well!

FYI: Information on how to add a printer is located on the “How-To” page. There is also a list of (almost) every printer located on campus, its location, and the IP address. Just click the “How-To” tab at the top of this web page. UPDATE 8/27/08: For security reasons, I am password protecting the printer page. Use your Attendance password to login, and view the PDF.

Most computer problems can easily be solved by restarting, and trying again from scratch. Try these steps to warm up that frozen computer:
Step 1: When able, you should always try restarting your computer. On a MAC click the “Apple” menu, click “Restart”. On a PC click “Start” then “Logoff” or “Restart”.
Step 2: If Step 1 doesn’t work, on a MAC hit the “APPLE + OPTION + ESC” keys, and “Force Quit” frozen applications. On a PC hit “CTRL +ALT +DEL” and click “Logoff” to clear any errors.
Step 3: Last resort. If the computer simply doesn’t want to respond, you may have to HOLD THE POWER BUTTON for 5 seconds. This forces the computer to turn completely off. Wait a few seconds, then power it back on.
